Runnin' for Rhett!
Attention all students and community members. Sheldon is the only high school selected to receive a Runnin' for Rhett Youth Fitness Grant for the "Run Because You Can!" 5K walk/run held on April 2nd, 2017 at Sacramento City College. The grant provides all SHS students with free training sessions each Monday and Friday after school from 3:30-4:15, a free t-shirt, free entrance to the walk/run, and a medal upon completion of the walk/run. If a student is currently involved in a sport, or Physical Education class, he or she will register for the walk/run and not need to participate in the training sessions seeing that the training would occur during the sport or PE class.
Beth and Randy Seevers founded the Runnin' for Rhett non-profit organization for their son Rhett who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and passed away at the age of seven. Beth found that running was something that helped her cope with the tremendous amount of grief she was experiencing from her loss. Beth and Randy want to encourage today's youth to run because they can, seeing that their own son never could. Rhett would have been a student here at SHS and Rhett's brother is an SHS graduate.
Registration is now open for the Spring 2017 Run Because You Can race. SHS parents, family, and school community member’s are invited to sign up to participate in the Run Because You Can 5K on April 2nd. All SHS friends and family members will receive a discount to the walk/run.
REGISTER FOR THE RACE:
Step 1: Go to www.runbecauseyoucan.org
Step 2: Click the blue REGISTER button on the right.
Step 3: Select 5K (9:00 AM) - I am running with a school or a child who is running with their school - $30.00
Step 4: Choose your school from the drop down menu.
Step 5: For “Coupon Code” type in S17RBYC for $10 off. Click Apply.
Step 6: Finish form and submit.
Registration Cost: $30 through February 28, $35 through March 31, $40 at packet pickup and day of event.
You may only use the coupon code online until March 31 at noon.
T-shirts are guaranteed until March 19, and will be on a first come first served basis after March 19.
Personalize your race bib for free by adding your name, phrase, or child’s school name. Personalization is limited to 11 characters. Deadline to personalize your bib is Feb. 25.
If registered by 2/25 and you don’t personalize your bib, the school name will be added if a school is chosen in the drop down menu.
