How do you spell H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S?

Sheldon High School THEATREworks is proud to present its SPRING production of the hit Broadway Musical

Sheldon High School Performing Arts Center
April 7, 8, 20, 21, and 22 @ 7:00 pm
April 22 @ 2:00 pm

At The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius and a fast-paced crowd pleaser and an instant theatre patron favorite.

This production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is directed by Craig Howard, assisted by Royea Fox, with choreography by Katie Rogers, musical direction by Stafford Hebert and Justin Bunselmeier, costumes by Denise Lorenz, technical direction by Larry Fox, and design by Larry Fox and Steven Adkins.

Opening night of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is Friday, April 7, at 7:00 PM. The production runs April 8, 20, 21, and 22. Show time is 7:00 PM on Thursday through Saturday. A matinee will be performed on Saturday, April 22, at 2:00 PM in addition to the 7:00 PM show. The production will be held at the PERFORMING ARTS CENTER THEATRE to the North of the Sheldon campus, 8333 Kingsbridge Drive. Ticket prices are $12.00 general admission, $10 children under 10. Tickets go on sale March 27th. For ticket reservations and additional information, call (916)681-7500, ext. 43682, email, or find us on

Runnin' for Rhett!

Attention all students and community members. Sheldon is the only high school selected to receive a Runnin' for Rhett Youth Fitness Grant for the "Run Because You Can!" 5K walk/run held on April 2nd, 2017 at Sacramento City College.  The grant provides all SHS students with free training sessions each Monday and Friday after school from 3:30-4:15, a free t-shirt, free entrance to the walk/run, and a medal upon completion of the walk/run.  If a student is currently involved in a sport, or Physical Education class, he or she will register for the walk/run and not need to participate in the training sessions seeing that the training would occur during the sport or PE class.

Beth and Randy Seevers founded the Runnin' for Rhett non-profit organization for their son Rhett who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and passed away at the age of seven.  Beth found that running was something that helped her cope with the tremendous amount of grief she was experiencing from her loss. Beth and Randy want to encourage today's youth to run because they can, seeing that their own son never could.  Rhett would have been a student here at SHS and Rhett's brother is an SHS graduate.

Registration is now open for the Spring 2017 Run Because You Can race. SHS parents, family, and school community member’s are invited to sign up to participate in the Run Because You Can 5K on April 2nd.  All SHS friends and family members will receive a discount to the walk/run.
